Not sure if this is the correct location for this posting or not, but I wanted to share this with whomever might need it. Also, this document may be helpful for other models that have a 42" mowing deck.

What I've done is take the maintenance manuals and pulled out all of the info for the LA105 Lawn Tractor w/42" Mowing Deck. I've combined them into one document as, for me, getting the data for my John Deere Tractor was a total PITA! Now that I have it all in one document, well it's much easier.

NOTE: I have NOT included the portion about replacing/cleaning air filters and changing oil and oil filters. The reason being it's so simple that you pretty much have to be a tard to not know how to do those steps without a document. However, if members here ask me to add that portion in, well I will do that. For now though, that portion is so darned simple that I just didn't include it.

So, this document is in PDF format, so that it can be downloaded onto your SmartPhone, iPhone, iPad, laptop or desktop computer. It's only a bit shy of 1.4 meg in file size so not that huge, only 15 pages total. It includes the following: Specifications, removing & installing mower deck, replacing drive belt, adjusting belt tension, adjusting spindle brakes on mower deck, checking for bent blades, replacing blades, balancing blades, and then a troubleshooting chart.

Here is the location, simply click on the link and download it to your computer: John Deere LA105 Lawn Tractor Handy Guide.

NOW ITEM TO NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY USING THIS DOCUMENT - TOO MANY PEOPLE DON'T FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CORRECTLY SO DO NOT BLAME ME! THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS THAT THIS WAS EXTRACTED FROM ARE FROM THE JOHN DEERE SITE ITSELF, SO ALL I DID WAS COPY THE INFO RELATED TO THE LA105, AND ADDED IN GRAPHICS & IMAGES!

I don't use it much, but I do have a 647 tiller, a disk, and a sprayer. I've always noticed that it seems too wide. The arms have to be pulled all the way in to make it the normal CAT 1 spread. The sway chains don't have near enough adjustment to tighten up. It seems like the arms want to be 4-6 inches wider than standard CAT 1. It just seems odd. what are your experiences?

To day I started with a cold tractor and was able to cut for a total of 5 minutes before this happened.
Does anyone know about the Electromagnetic coil?
Can these coils open when they get hot?
I have not had the time to get under the tractor and do any voltage checks or continuaty checks at the clutch.
Is there anything in the electrical circut that could be opening up to limit the flow of current to the coil?
I need to be farming instead of fiddling arouind with this old John Deere.
Thanks for any help anyone may have.

X324 Upgraded Seat?

HI folks! So I wanted to make a quick post here and find out if anyone has upgraded the seat on the X324 lawn tractor. I was really liking the seat setup on the Z445 but after test driving it I found it just wouldn't do the maneuvering I wanted for my property with all the landscaping and hills, so I ended up with the X324 due to the 4WS setup. However, the seat has no arm rests and I'd like to get a little more suspension in it. I have a bad lower spine issue that gets aggravated if I hit a few little bumps and whatnot. I used to have a Cub Cadet LT1045 and that thing rode like a brick and I've have back pain for a good couple days after. Okay, long winded there, sorry.

Anybody ever upgrade their seat on a comparable tractor like this one? I found a couple nice seat upgrades for about $100 that have arm rests and suspension but I think they're custom setups and you have to make sure it fits your rig.

Any advice is really appreciated! :thumbup1gif:

Picked this up at TSC for $330.00. 40 gallon, says a 120 inch swath, but probably more like 9 feet.
It is just the right size for the x748, but another 4 inches of height would be ideal..(.limited cat 1). I could raise the boom up a little without too much trouble. It is great compared to the pull behind 25 gallon one that I had; it's nice to maneuver around and back up without a hassle.
It would be perfect for a 1026:thumbup1gif:, you would have more lift height.
I might even play with it on my 4720.
I sprayed about 7 or 8 acres with 2,4-D on Saturday. Worked very good.

Hey guys, I'm kind of a rookie when it comes to tractors and have a bunch of questions. First a little background info: I currently have a 2001...

Hey guys, I'm kind of a rookie when it comes to tractors and have a bunch of questions. First a little background info: I currently have a 2001 LT155 which I'm getting ready to replace. I have roughly 2 acres to mow - part of it has some decent hills - and my little 155 just seems to struggle. It takes me roughly 4 hours to mow the whole thing, and part of the reason it takes so long is because if the grass is even slightly too long, my tractor just doesn't do a good job of cutting it. I often need to take 2 passes in order to get it cut properly. (and yes my blades are sharp) I borrowed my neighbor's Sears Craftsmen mower (little bigger than my LT155) last week and while I generally didn't like the thing, it did cut much better than my 155. I didn't need to take 2 passes, even in areas where the grass was pretty long and thick. Maybe that's just because it's a bigger, more powerful tractor??

Anyway, below are a few questions:

1. Given the size of my lawn (2 acres), is there a rule of thumb for how big my tractor should be? I really like the x500 series, maybe with a 54" deck?

2. I have another neighbor who is selling his x720. It's a 2012 with only 30 hours on it, and by all accounts is in great shape. He's selling it for $7700. Assuming there's nothing wrong with it, is this a good deal? Normally I would think a x700 series would be overkill for my needs, but at the same time I'm always interested in a good deal.

3. If I DO get a new tractor, I'd like to get an attachment for snow removal in the winter. What are the pros/cons of a snowblower vs a blade?

Thanks a bunch for any info, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with all the choices out there. I don't necessarily need to get a John Deere, but they seem to be much better quality than other tractors I've seen/used over the years.

I just picked up my first ever JD!!! The unit is a 2000 335 with a 42" rototiller for which I need to purchase a deck. The tractor has only 116 hours....yes I typed that correct 115 hours. The tractor ran perfect before I bought it from a private party just last night. I was totally psyched!!! I drove an hour and 15 minutes on the highway and when I got home to back it off the trailer it was running very rough almost like surging. Here is what I have done so far:

Added fresh gas and some carb cleaner additives ( I have run it now for 30 minutes or so and no change)

Changed the fuel filter and blew out the air filters (no change)

Sprayed carb cleaner in the carb (no change)

Inspected the plugs and they look perfect

I sprayed a little starting fluid directly into the carb and it kinda smoothed out, but once the starting fluid was gone it started revving again.

It almost wants to die at low idle and still revs up and down at high throttle. It really acts like a fuel delivery problem but I am out of ideas.

Please help.

Thanks,

Ok........searched the forums on filling tires to gain weight and stability and I found nothing...........did I miss it?

Is there GOOD info already out there on this? ........... is good to do, does it really help and if so, what's the right way to do it...........don't want to damage the mower any when I get it........rust etc. But it sounds like a good inexpensive way to add weight short of buying iron weights.

Is adding weight to a front loader (johnny bucket sr.) a good idea? I will be going forward up the hill and then reverse back down........don't plan on trying to turn on the hill.

Also they don't make a product that also adds weight but also serves to seal any tire punctures at the same time?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

GT242 wont rev up all the way?

Hello, new to this site.

I have a GT 242 tractor, it used to run great with no issues but one day the aluminum piece that guides the counterweight inside the motor snapped off while it was running and caused all kinds of havoc. Replaced the bushing in the counterweight and the aluminum piece that holds it, along with the rod, piston, and rings. This was all done about a year ago.

The mower now takes quite a bit of cranking on the first cold start of the day to get it going, after that it is fine. The main thing thats really annoying, is the mower doesnt rev up all the way. The first 4 clicks on the throttle do nothing, and the last 2 rev it up a bit. Choke works. I know it isnt running full throttle because of how it used to sound before the rebuild and how loud it used to be, and what it used to be able to cut through without bogging down the slightest bit.

How do I fix this and what could cause it?
