    Gardens 2017

I know it's too early, but the seed catalogs started coming over a week ago!

I did clean up a few leftover leaves this morning & cut a low hanging branch out of one of the flowering crabs this morning!

I've started looking through the catalogs too!! I'm already looking forward to planting again. And we haven't even gotten any real snow yet this year!

I wanted to get our garden tilled in the fall, but time & weather took care of that.
That will now wait to spring. My wife is in charge of everything after the garden is tilled before planting.

I'll be starting peppers this week. Carolina Reaper, Habanero and Jalafuego. Tomatoes and eggplants around Valentines. I've got a few seeds left to get delivered, but my pots and peppers are all waiting on us when we get home.

Wife told me just this morning that she needs to get the seeds started pretty soon. It will be April before we plant the garden.

I'll look through the catalogs when they come. However it will be mid to late March before I order or even seriously start thinking about the garden. Heck, I just harvested the last of the carrots and beets from under the snow yesterday!

I used to order most of my seeds, but anymore, with shipping so high, I get most of them from Menard's!

Yeah, we got the first of the seed catalogs the other day. A bit early to get too wound up about it though...won't be starting seeds until mid-March at the earliest...it will be well into May before we get the garden planted.

We broke ground on a new garden this Fall. Property had been pasture for as long as anyone can remember so it was slow going - hard packed clay. But the dirt is nice and black with lots of worms and grubs so we're hoping it'll grow some nice stuff. We planted winter peas as a cover crop and will let them roll into the spring. Then we'll plow them under before planting.

Still need to get a soil test done but figured we'd wait until spring.

I hear you. That's why I put off ordering any last year. I lucked out that the carrot seeds I had from the year before germinated ok. The carrot seed I get from Harris Seeds. It is pelleted to eliminate thinning. But the shipping is high! Also, we have no Menard's in these parts and all of our Agway farm stores are gone. So for buying seeds, Lowe's or Home Depot is it.
