The Original 1997 Geezer Jeep is gone, stolen March 2010
No trace, it's gone and likely being driven in Mexico
R.I.P. I hope the thieving bastards who stole you are happy.
The Geezer Jeep on Sledgehammer in Johnson Valley California
Geezer is running a 4.0L engine with a recent conversion from its original 5-speed manual transmission to a 32RH TF999 automatic transmission. The new automatic tranny is much better suited to the rocky trails I enjoy. 4.5" Rubicon Express long arm suspension lift, Rubicon Express monotube shocks, and a Performance Accessories 1" body lift, and 1" taller M.O.R.E. Bombproof rubber motor mounts .
A Powertrax No-Slip locker is in the front axle and in the rear, a Dana 44 axle with a Detroit Locker. A RockCrusher differential cover protects the front differential while an incredibly beefy T&J rear diff cover protects the rear differential. 35x12.50x15 Goodyear MT/R tires are mounted on 15x8 American Racing # 23 aluminum wheels. Dana-Spicer 4.88 ring & pinion gears have proven to be a great all-around ratio choice for the 35" tires. The rockers are protected by 4XDoctor's Rocker Guards with tub corner protection from Warrior 18 gauge steel corner guards.
A Bayou Geep SYE kit and a Tom Wood CV driveshaft take care of both strengthening the drivetrain and reducing the driveshaft angle. A Dana-Spicer u-joint u-bolt yoke for the rear Dana 44 was added for more strength. Currie's steering kit consisting of a stronger 1.25" solid drag link, tie-rod, and tie-rod ends provides the additional strength to handle the rocks of Southern California's deserts.
It can get cold in the desert, look how we're dressed!
Warn 4340 chromolly hardened inner and outer front axleshafts replace the factory axleshafts that broke on Sledgehammer. Warn manual hubs replace the factory fixed hubs for easier rebuilding, less drag on the axle when in two-wheel drive, or if something breaks or bends and I need to isolate the axle problem until it can be fixed. After twisting the factory axle shaft splines inside the rear Dana 44, the axle shafts were replaced with stronger AlloyUSA axle shafts. Rear brakes have been converted from drum to disk with Tera's Ford Explorer rear disk brake conversion kit. Front brakes have been upgraded with VANCO's BIg Brake upgrade kit which provided a VERY dramatic improvement in braking effectiveness. Steering is handled by a Tommy Lee steering box, Blaine Johnson power steering pump bracket, KRC high volume power steering pump, and a Howe external PS fluid reservoir.
Geezer also has a well-tested Tomken gas tank skid plate, a Tera oilpan skid plate, and a Currie Anti-Rock Offroad Swaybar system replaces the front swaybar. Extended length heim-jointed rear swaybar links help with rear axle articulation. The front bumper is a 44" stubby with a built-in winch mount from AtoZ Fabrication, the rear bumper is an Olympic Rock Bumper with a 2" receiver hitch. More mods include a Uniden CB with a 2' FireStix CB antenna, 5 lb. fire extinguisher, first-aid kit, Warn HS9500i winch with 100' of 3/8" VIking synthetic winch line. KC 8" off-road lights, front and rear tow hooks, Hi-Lift jack, and a JackMate for the Hi-Lift. Tow straps, chains, and other assorted recovery gear and tools reside in the Tuffy rear underseat tool drawer. An Off-Road Fabricators spare tire and jerry can holder takes the heavy spare tire's weight off the tailgate while also holding two 5-gallon jerry cans for extra gasoline and water. An Optima Blue Top battery powers the Jeep and winch.
A high volume belt-driven on-board York air compressor mounted with a Brad Kilby bracket and a Sun 2.5 gallon air tank works well for both reinflating tires and running air tools. All four tires can be simultaneously reinflated in under five minutes with a four-chuck octopus hose rig that can also air them all down at once for offroading. A Rubicon Express hand-throttle is useful for both rock crawling and to set the engine rpms higher for winch or air compressor use. LiteDOT rear LED tail lights have replaced the factory tail lights.
