    Last models without ECU ?

I've tried to find out the last models / year JDs that didn't have an ECU.
I'm looking for a 150-200 PTO HP tractor with powershift transmission, MFWD is a bonus. I'm needing a tractor to put up hay that can run my NH 316 and Vermeer 605sm.
I know the 50 series (44,46,48) did not have an ECU, I think the 55 series also did not.

What other models / years after the 50/55 series will fit those requirements ?

    Thanks.

One of my favorite tractors to run growing up was a mfwa 4955 with powershift. Great tractor for ground engagement but for running a baler, you can't go wrong with a 4430/40/50. Quad range was easy as can be too. Put up thousands of round and sq bales. Those are a little on the light end of the pto hp you want but they were underrated back then and are more than capable of running impliments

I just looked up the specs on both pieces of equipment and wonder why you want more than double the hp necessary to operate them? 45 pto hp can run the sq baler and about 80 for the round baler. Your in Kansas so it's not particularly hilly country. Just might be a lot of wasted fuel if you don't have to have the power. If you want to run a batwing too or pull sweeps or disc than I would understand

Asking a mechanic at your John Deere dealer would be a good place to start.

According to JDparts.com 4555,4755 & 4955 have a ECU RE501802. My 4255 doesn't have an ECU. I agree that 200 hp is an overkill on a small sq & rd baler.

Shoot. I guess that makes sense as the tach was electronic now that I think about it. Heck of a tractor though

I bale feed sorghum with the 605SM and Vermeer recommended 150hp. The baler is the Corn stalk special version.

I guess I wasn't clear enough about the NH, it's a New Holland DB 316 which is a 16 foot mower-conditioner. Sorry for any confusion.

I use a 4640 (150hp pto) and it cuts feed fine. My friend has a 4440 (130hp pto) and it is fine with the DB316 to cut alfalfa & prairie hay but it really grunts trying to cut feed.

Currently I only have the 4640 and a 4020. I'm looking for another tractor to run the swather and baler.
Most KS fields are pretty flat, but I have several pretty good hills and really like the extra weight of the 4640 with that 8,000 lb baler.

Ahhhh. I understand much better now. Even though it has an ecu, I still really like the 4955. I have spend over 1k in one growing up and it always got the job done and maintenance wasn't bad. Had duals when sweeping or discing and took them off for hay. Had a self propelled NH swather so don't know what a load a pull behind is but we put up heavy alfalfa bales, lighter crp bales and also sorghum for feed bales. After wheat harvest we'd even bake wheat stubble for winter bedding. Had 4430/40/50 and then the 4955. Also had a 70s model 2xxx series that was more of a yard tractor and big bale mover when everything else was tied up

Not all JD's with electronic tach has an ECU 4055,4255, & 4455 could be optioned with electronic tach but still no ECU. My 4255 also has radar to measure acreage & wheel slippage.
