My cousin has a 2000 model. Sweet machine - he Dyno'd it at 184hp. I'd take a peek @ www.JDparts.com and look for ideas on how the pump is configured in the 8.1L engine.

IIRC - the later 8.1's are geared to the crankshaft.

Since you're a DIY and not feared of a little grease - the Technical Repair Manual should also be on your top shelf.

Are you attempting to R&R water pump kit(key 18) with housing still on engine??? Viewing 7810 water pump in parts catalog is confusing because it lists 2 different style water pumps with no apparent serial number break.2nd WP is very similar to WP on my 4255 which I've had to replace twice in over 11,000 hrs of operation. Once all bolts are removed gasket will be stuck fairly tight. I personally don't understand why JD engineers decided to drive a water pump from gears so when weep hole in WP housing clogs & seal fails coolant ends up in engine crankcase. On my 4255 WP weep hole is very difficult to locate & clean while WP is bolted to engine.

    Thanks,
Got it removed late last nite. Running grain cart today. Tapped 2 1/4 holes in the impeller and rigged up a puller. Ordered service manual with water pump but it takes 7-10 days.

I have always felt every Engineer should intern as a Mechanics Helper and Gofer for a couple of years before designing anything!
