    JD 6400 8mm bolt shorn off

    Well boys it happened!! I was feeding up the livestock and while doing so I noticed hygard fluid pouring out under the 6400. Found out that dreaded 8mm bolt I believe is attached to the clutch pack directly above the driveline knuckle joint had shorn off. I have a flatdeck picking my rig up to take to repair shop. Is this a big repair?

    Did the bolt come loose, drop down, then the front drive shaft hit it and break it?

    Is this bolt for the control valves to a power quad transmission?

    If so, it will be a 6mm bolt. Maybe just remove the front drive shaft and replace the bolt if no other damage?

    That bolt is almost directly in the middle of cab and its a 8mm. I noticed fluid dripping out so took a 8 mm wrench and checked the bolts. When i checked the affected bolt it fell right out of hole. It was being held prior to me checking it out only by the green paint over it.

    Not sure if it was bent prior to me removing it? I jacked up front end and turned the driveline and bolt fell out in between the driveline knuckle.

    That bolt is in the valve body but it also helps locate a manifold inside the transmission. I have seen a few of these fail. Ususally they break off right at the threaded end. The hole is approx. 2 inches deep. The wrench size is 8mm but the bolt size is 6mm thread diameter. Sometimes can get lucky with a left hand drill bit to back out the bolt. It is easier to access if the valve body is removed. I have seen some people leave the bolt out and thread the valve body and install a set screw or !/8" pipe plug to seal the leak. Can't guarantee there won't be a problem down the road with the location of the manifold in the housing. The bolt goes through the valve body , through part 9 in diagram and threads into manifold #1.

    Bolt size is by diameter of the threads, not wrench size. That's why I stated 6mm bolt.

    The bolt is P/N: R175130 The sealing washer P/N: R163341

    The bolt is 6mm x 80mm long. Since you have the bolt, you can measure it's length and determine how much is broken off.

    There are broken screw/bolt removers that have straight splined shafts that come with bushings to keep the drill centered. They have special hex pieces that slide on the splined shaft for turning them. You might have to have a bushing made to get the 6mm OD, but I think removal would be possible.

    Looks just like my set, even down to the overheated ends from heating with torch to free up stubborn bolts. That is my favorite broken bolt remover set along with left handed drill bits.

    My set has seen hard use too. I am missing (broke) a few parts I wish I could replace. I have wrapped shim stock around the bushings to make them fit odd sized holes too. Mine came from SnapOn. I think RIDGID also makes the same set
