    Frustrated with Locking Keys

So I see a few others have the same problem I do with these stupid locking keys on the grapple. When I first got my grapple I had one break and spoke to Artillian they looked into the problem and claimed that it was a new guy welding them and he didn't have the experience or something like that. He sent me two replacements with this sort of alan head stop deal on the cables. Well the allen head stops both fell off a while ago and now 4 out of the 6 keys that stop the grapple from sliding back and forth are busted. Is there a better fix for these keys then the ones you sent me. When I bought this grapple and forks I spent around $3500 it has been holding up pretty well but these stupid keys are a real pain in a$$.

So I take it you had the same problem? I love the grapple otherwise, its just those damn pins. I think thats a great idea though the pin and clip. Very easy to replace as well should you lose one. Thanks.

Sure. I had a lanyard break very soon after I started to use the grapple. Chris was very quick in sending me the fix "kit" you mentioned and even included a small tube of Loctite.

After using the amazing grapple for 2 years, I still am not a big fan of the locking keys and have replaced a few with clevis pins.
The extra 10 seconds it requires to insert the clevis is nothing.

I remain a solid booster of Artillian products, of which I own several, and regard the locking keys as an attempt to design a better mouse trap. Swing and a miss on these weird looking keys. Everything else in Artillian's line-up is a home run.

I use a different version of this but I think the original keys actually do a better job of minimizing lateral movement. They just tend to fail at inopportune moments. I have received replacements before from Peter but I am still short two because right after he sent me some gratis (many thanks!) another two broke and I didn't feel right asking him for two more. The new style has held up so far for me and I am not kind at all with that grapple. So yes, this is the only artillian design I have not been enamored with.

The new keys have thicker welds and are shaped a little different. Also the mechanism for attaching the cable is with a set screw.

I also like the original design. I had a couple break and Artillian replaced them. I decided that the welds on all of them could be strengthened. I cut the old wire cable, rewelded each one and added two more welds to each, reattached with new wire and crimps. It would be so easy for Artillian to change the welds. Will see.
