    Garage Addition

This is my build thread of my garage addition. Its 20x26 with a 16x8 door. I am putting in 3 36"x48" windows and the walk out door on the end is a 32" door. This is mostly parking for the lady and room for some storage and a deep freeze and fridge. These first few pictures show the footings after they were poured and also the stem wall after it was poured.

The floor was poured next. It turned out really smooth. Overall Im happy with the concrete job. Stem walls could have been smoothed up a little more, but I was sleeping after night shift when he poured and he really needed another set of hands to get it smooth.

I had an accident at work three days before we were going to frame up the walls and set the trusses.... Not fun considering Im on a work restriction of 5 pounds lifting or pushing with my left hand untill the stitches come out and its in a splint and wrapped up. Oh well, I could have cut it completely off I suppose. It doesnt look too bad in the photo but I may have cut the extender tendon, as I cant move the end of my finger at all. I go to the orthopedic hand specialist and will know more this week.

So we decided to go ahead and carry on with the build and start framing it up. With the help from some family members we got it framed up and the trusses set in about 6 hours. Pretty decent time considering I couldnt do much with my left hand and it was terribly hot out. There were 14 trusses, 4/12 pitch. This wasnt a complicated build but the roof may be a little tricky to frame the valleys back in. It ended up being almost exactly 10' from the floor to the ceiling, so it should "feel" roomier than it actually is. We wanted to go 24' wide but county setbacks had us needing 30' side setbacks.

Here are the last few I have for now. This is the door side, facing east. I will eventually have to backfill around the garage and build a driveway to this garage but it will be once I am mostly done with the rest. Hopefully this coming weekend I can get the roof sheating started and get the roof tied back in to the existing roof and get the soffit and fascia all done and get someone out to put some new guttering on the whole place. Also once its closed in that window on the end of the house will be getting removed and thats where the entry point to the house will be, but closer to the corner.

Nice build, and OUCH on that finger.

I'm surprised the hospital (I assume you went there) didn't call in or send you to a hand specialist before they stitched you up. Many years ago, I "split"/"banana peeled" my middle finger. The ER sent me to a local hand surgeon for a looksee on my tendons before the stitches.

Good luck and get that finger looked at soon.

I see the hand surgeon tomorrow. This is just a secondary garage, I have a 24x30 shop I use for the tractor and truck. This one will be primarily used for parking and winter oil changes/maintenance. Im hoping to get the roof sheeted this coming weekend, the valleys framed in, and maybe some roofing on.

From the pictures, it looks like your new roof pitches in under the eave of the existing, how are you going to handle the water run off?
