    24t

I’ve got a 24T baler that needs some extensive work on the pickup head, new bands all the way across at $80 each, plus the 2 end pieces and new pickup fingers. Can anyone tell me if the pickup head off a 224 will fit the 24T? They look identical except that the 224 is belt driven and the 24 is chain driven. I have an opportunity to purchase a 224 for cheap and the head is near flawless. My 24 is a string baler and the 224 I’m looking at is the wire baler. I’m restoring the 24 and the pickup head is the last piece to be finished, if the heads will swap over, it will save me a bunch of money and grief!! Any help is appreciated

Dang, that looks nice! Great work, Iíd like to see more honestly.

And pardon me, I wish I could help with your question, but I donít have any experience with those. Have you tried JDParts and looking them up to compare? Itís free and pretty easy to use.

Iím sure some of the fellas will see this and chime in too.

I'm not that familiar with a 224WS, but in looking at part numbers, there appears to be some significant differences. The strippers have different part numbers. I didn't check for substitute numbers that may end up being the same. The inside flare is the same, but the outside flare has a different part number. The pickup reel for the 24T has four tooth bars, while the 224 has five. I also don't know if the width of the pickup is the same. There were a lot of 24T's sold. You might want to look around in farm equipment salvage yards. The picture of your baler shows it to be in good condition. I don't know your location, but if you are in a dairy area or former dairy area there should be many 24T's available. Let us know how you make out getting it operational.

Frame for 224 pickup has a different part number than for 24T. Although your paint job on your 24T looks very nice the original color on flywheel center cap was green not yellow.

I bought a complete 24T for parts when I purchased the working baler. You'll have many extra parts you may not need, but you'll have all the spares you will need. Don't know your location, but there are usually some available on craigslist in my neck of the woods (SW MO).

same situation here....bought 2-24ts ...got one working ...one for parts.....family member is now using the working one....still got the parts one........i went to a 336 .... also in SWMO ......doesnt seem hard to find them around for parts....some parts can be quite expensive though such as knotter assemblies ....seems that buying parts balers is MUCH cheaper than buying specific parts

I’m in upstate NY. I haven’t been able to locate too many around me without having to travel across the state. I’ll find something somewhere, the head I have is usable I was just hoping that maybe the head on the 224 would work! The one I found is flawless other than faded paint.

I know about the hub cap being green and not yellow, just thought it would look good yellow but it’s now green to match the rest of the baler.

Thanks again for all the input, just for giggles, I am going to take every measurement I can think of and go compare my measurements to the one on the 224, it can’t hurt right?
