    UPS Battery Replacement

Hey all I need to replace the batteries in my Tripp lite UPS. The pre-made packs run several hundred dollars. I'm thinking about just buying the 3 batteries and making my own pack, I can get the batteries for around $50.

Have any of you made your own? The only thing I'm not sure on is what kind of tape they use to hold the batterie together.

Below is a pic of the factory pack.

Batteries Plus will build you one. I've done it several times myself for various backups.

Did you just take the old one into the store?

Yup. I have tons of different battery backups. Some won't let you replace the battery, others want to make it look like they use a special one such like yours. They see this all the time. If I can easily make/replace the battery, I'll replace the whole backup with one that is serviceable.

I looked at batteries plus and it looks like they are charging $10 more for the batteries than Amazon. I took the tape off of the old back and it is really only the 3 batteries I just need to figure out what I can stick new ones back together with.

    UPS Battery Replacement

Don't bother with the glue or tape. The only reason it is there is for transport purposes. I personally rebuild all of our UPS units both Schneider APC, TrippLite, and one other that has slipped my mind for the moment. Most of the replacement batteries will be so snug of a fit you will wonder if they bent the metal carriage around the pack.

Recommend taking pictures and drawing out the wiring diagram before removing packs. I have one unit from a series that was built a week earlier than the rest and it does not use the same series parallel circuit as the rest. Of course we have a whole building APC 500 kVA that is 28 banks if memory serves correctly. Each tray is $500 from APC and costs a boat load to ship. Our Tech Services Department ordered replacements once ate up a huge part of their emergency fund. A few years later I rebuilt all the trays for around $1500. Took time but was really just a lot of screws.
