Anyone know the history of the 239 diesel? I am replacing the 202 that was in my loader with a 239 and the newer 239 don't have the balancer shafts in the engine. is this something that I need to worry about?
The 100 series were the equivalent of the new generation tractors only in industrial form. the 700 was the 5010/20, the 600 was the 4010/20, the 500 was the 3010/20...the 400 and the 350 were a bit of a spin off though. The 1010/2010 were industrial, but didnt carry the equivalent, but if i remember correctly the 1020 and 2020 were the 350 and 400. They didnt carry over the same issues that the 1010/2010 had.
As far as your conversion goes, i know they are the same family, but i dont know what you mean by balancer shafts, do you mean internal vs external balance? I have a 400, gas, with a FEL on it, the pump is front mount, and a 350 parts tractor and it was front mount as well, but i dont remember which motor is in it. i would have to go out and look at its about 5 degrees outside, so thats not happening, im done with being outside. So i guess all that being said, if the pump fit and doesnt run into the radiator or fuel tank, then should be okay.
Why would you be changing from the 202 to the 239?
Well when I started hunting for a motor at the Salvage yards. the guy stated that the 219 and 239 would be the ones to use. due to the evolution and the HP ratings.
So I talked to a JD dealer and he stated that he would opt for the 239.that it would fit.
I finally located a motor out of a paving machine, and one long road trip I had it.
well I had to swap some parts on the motor like the large cast oil pan. and when I had it off I seen that the 239 did not have the rotating balancer shafts in the motor like the 202 did.
They are two shafts that set a little lower than the crank one each side and are driven off gears at the front of the motor. they look like cam shafts.and the JD parts book call them Balancer shafts.
when I had the oil pan off of the 239 I noticed they were not there , but it had bearings in the journals? and that is what got me questing. they have never had anything in them. was just seeing if anyone had any info on the 239 to see if this might have been an upgrade to the motor or if this would cause me any problems.
and from what I can tell one of them broke and caused my problem with the 202 motor.
Well I installed the 239 in the tractor and am currently putting the million parts back together.LOL
