    BBQ Chicken

We had our annual Fire Department chicken BBQ yesterday. It's always a great fundraiser. We BBQ 200 pieces at a time (50 pieces per grill) and normally start around 5am. Nothing like cooking over charcoal! $8 per plate and it consists of a half chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, corn, roll, and a side container of homemade BBQ dipping sauce. As always............it was AWESOME!!!!! Here's a few pics.

I usually get the dinners to go when our local FD has the their chicken BBQ.

The big question is how much beer did ya drink? There is always beer?

Thanks! The chicken turned out great. It truly is a bargain.........though some people think it's expensive. A meal like that in a resturant would be at least $12 not including drinks and a tip.

Thanks for supporting your local FD Kieth! As far as beer........Maine state law forbids any alcohol at a fire station. But........there might have been a few adult beverages there. I don't know........I didn't see any.

I would've went, that looks awfully good and sounds like a ton of food for $8!

When are you coming here for my local FD fundraiser?

Looks like you have a good setup for the cookout. My dad, uncle and I do a BBQ hog in September for the community. We start cooking on Friday and it's ready about midnight. It is so very good. Your set up has given me a couple of ideas. Thanks for the pictures.

Nothing like a slow cooked pig! It's been awhile since an organization around here did that.

The BBQ setup works great. It's just 3 rows of cinder blocks. Every few years we need to change out some blocks. We made the pad and roof about 15 years ago and it's right behind the station. We love it.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I have county funded FD, not volunteer. I don't think they actually do any fundraisers.

I still admire what you do for your community. It's very inspiring.

You know.........being a Volunteer Firefighter is pretty much a thankless job.........especially being the Fire Chief. But that's OK. We certainly don't do it for fame and definitely not fortune. Every now and then I hear something like Jason said above and it makes it all worthwhile. Thank you for your kind words. I'm happy to say that I'M PROUD TO KNOW JASON!
