There isn't a section for walk-behind JD snow blowers either. :-)

That is a good point but since their seems to be a general John Deere Interest here on GTT i figured i would ask and i am shure the JD sled guys would not mind a section. Some of our members might own one or two JD snowmobiles and need tec and or restoration help so a section or sub section would be good for them here on GTT

There is a section for utv, atv, and other recreational vehicles. I would say a snowmobile falls under "other recreational vehicles"

It's not only the thread - it should be a section. But, why not!? Maybe I'll have probs with a pressure washer section or so

This brings back memories. I rode my uncles' JD 440 back in 1982. I had a 1972 Yamaha 360, and the John Deere 440 would run circles around it, with far better suspension. The Yamaha was more reliable and easier to work on, but for power, the JD was the fastest of the four sleds "we" owned. Mine was the smallest (and cheapest), my father had an Arctic Cat 440, my brother an Article Cat 400(?) and my uncle and cousin both has John Deeres sleds. My uncle's work kept him on the road, so if he could not join us, I was free to use his JD sled, which is where I got my seat time. We kept our sleds at my dad's cabin near Effie, MN. At the time I lived in Hibbing, just an hour away.

    Here is a short history:
John Deere built snowmobiles from 1972-1984. According to Wikipedia, the initial design and testing phase came in 1970-1971, when engineers tested other popular snowmobiles, and found ways to improve them. I believe this because our 1974 JD was a superior sled to our 1973 Arctic Cat in speed and handling. The machines were produced by John Deere in Horicon, Wisconsin, where John Deere continues to build lawn and garden equipment today. I've been by the factory a couple of times. I wish I knew if they gave tours....

Here is a list of the sleds John Deere produced. I believe the one we had was JDX8
