    LX255 Battery light on.

I just purchased an LX255. Tractor is in excellent condition except for the hood and one other issue. The battery light was on at start up and when the lights are on. With the lights off and after increasing engine speed the light would go off. I was told by the seller that the voltage regulator was going and was an easy fix. This sounded reasonable and since the tractor was so clean and everything else worked as it should, I made the purchase. I was given an identical used VR that was off a working motor. Of course after changing the VR the light stays on constantly. I swapped back an forth between each VR and the issue is not resolved. Battery light stays on. I have a new VR on the way. Any other ideas that could cause this problem? Short? Bad stator? I am not a mechanic and electronics is not a strength. Thanks.

Do you have a multi meter?
Set it on AC volts and disconnect the stator connector to the voltage regulator and look for 35-40 volts at wide open throttle.
If that checks out re connect the stator wires to the regulator and set your meter on DC volts and measure the output of the regulator to the battery against ground. Should be around 14 volts DC.
