What is the procedure to return where you stopped in the list of topics I select an entry in a forum read it then I have to to the top of page select "todays post" then advance to the page it was then find my my "stopping point" and then go on thru the list to see what else I want to read
    is there an easier way

Your list will be smaller if you use "New Posts" instead of "Today's Posts", at least it is for me. You can also just go to each section separately and unread posts will be in bold at the top of each section. The only other option is to use your browser back button. Hope this helps.

If I am understanding your question correctly.....

What I do is go to the "new posts" or "today's posts" section. Then as Randy says, any new activity since you last visit - those threads will be in bold as seen in the screen shot. Then if you click on the little button where the arrow is pointing, it will bring you to the next new post since your last visit.
