2015 XUV 825i Gator with Chery Chinese Engines

My local JD dealer has two 2015 825i Gators which they loaned out to the forest fire service, this past fall, when we had all the fires up here in the northwest. They have around 300 hours on them. The dealer is discounting them $1,000 and they have the full warranty. Researching the 825i I discovered they have the Chery Chinese engine in them. I was disappointed that JD didn't use a proven Japanese manufacturer instead of the Chinese one. I've seen other Chinese ATVs and they don't hold up or are constantly having maintenance/workmanship issues. Am I over concerned that these Chinese engines are sub quality? I would think before JD put their name on them, JD would insure they are built to JD standards(??). I'd like to know the forum's thoughts or experience on the 825i Gators. Thank you for your advise.

You would think JD would use their head instead of their A_ _ for thinking ,but I have to agree with your concerns. They bring out the Xuv 550 series, using a air cooled BS engine , WHY not a water cooled and fuel injected instead of using a carb. To save maybe $2-500 dollars for what to make customers mad.
Now getting to the 825i , haven't heard good things from the 3 folks I know that own them. All of them complain of noise coming from the rear end. Dealer tells them this is normal , I was told same thing with Xuv550 . Engine concern was another thing , the owners are concerned about the engine lasting as long as a Japanese manufacturer. Of course the dealers (3 different ) assure them "Oh Deere wouldn't come out with a engine or new machine that wouldn't last."
Two of the owners are having CVT belt problems, noisy cabs , so loud can only talk by screaming at each other. These machines are used on their farms not out playing in deep mud holes every weekend. Not saying they aren't riding in mud but I've been on both of their farms riding ours , maybe 1 muddy trail.
If you notice we no longer have a Gator. Plus only a $1000 discount, 300 hrs that could be 1500-2500 MILES.

I was thinking the same thing. The dealer isn't exactly knocking himself out. I would expect more discount on a NEW 2015 "leftover". This is December.

Tractors/ Gators aren't like cars, "model year" is completely irrelevant.

You should get better discounts on the used 825i's.

My JD dealer had a bunch of 825i's that had been demos at the state fair and loaners to local school districts for summer cross country track team use. None of them had over 40 hrs on them.

I picked up one that had 39 hrs on it, used by a school south of me. The dealer let me use it for 5 days testing it before buying (I got it pretty dirty using it). It is back at dealer now getting stuff on it I wanted. Cost? 2015 825i power steering with full all around protection, power box lift, front JD windshield, new full soft cab (3rd party), new snow plow (3rd party), new JD cab heater, line-x style bed protection along with bed mat, and the extra CV protection fore and aft. Full new warranty with extended warranty thrown in by the dealer and full service before delivery back to sweeten the deal. $18K total price which included tax and titling fee required by state. Call Jayson at Van Wall JD in Grinnell, Iowa. He can confirm the deal.

The Chery engine is a proven, solid motor. I wouldn't let that concern you. The Chinese did pretty good with that motor. Not everything Chinese is junk. If they were crappy motors, you can darn well bet that there would be a stink raised by a lot of folks given the number of 825i's running around the country. There are a lot of folks that have figured out ways to improve the CVT setup. Most problems folks have seem to revolve around abuse and not maintaining the 825i properly. I have seen 825i's with well over 1000 hrs that were running just fine.

In trying to view info for a Gator TX it appears to be somewhat NEW year specific.

Will agree and disagree on your statement. I always thought the same thing. The other week trading a 10 yr old x585 was worth $4500 on a trade in till the dealer ran the serial # and found out it was really a 12 yr old x585 now it is only worth $3000 on trade in on same tractor.

I always thought the year it was made didn't matter just the # of hours on the meter.

When we traded in our Gator last month the year it was made was deciding factor on trade in value plus # of hours.

There are little changes that JD makes from year to year. Most of the major stuff remains the same, but they do tweak some things from year to year.

Case in point specific to 825i. The CVT air system. Now it has a snorkel kind of intake on it that keeps water and most junk out of the CVT air flow that they didn't have on the earlier models. Also, they have modified the springs or whatever on the new model CVT's so that the clutch engages a little lower on the RPM band. I had heard from many that the CVT clutch did not engage till 2000 RPM. Mine engages at about 1400. Could be a fluke, but I am not going to complain.

This is only true when WE are purchasing equipment from the dealer and paying top dollar for a "New" 2-year old tractor which is weathered with surface rust.

Besides the diesels, that Chery engine is probably one of the best engines ever put in a UTV. It's an automotive engine that is technologically way ahead of the ATV and lawnmower engines that some others are using.
