After excitedly waiting all week my HeavyHitch duel suitcase weight bracket arrived this morning. Couldn’t wait to open the box and see the work of art everyone has been raving about! And it truly is a work of art... perfect welds, no spatter, immaculate finish, BIG, HEAVY, RUGGED and manly, I couldn’t contain myself...
Only one problem, I didn’t own any suitcase weights. The new 2038R parked outside arrived yesterday evening and is my first tractor. Wasn’t planning on this hitch setup because a 270B bh is supposed to be mounted on the tractor right now. But, according to the dealer the bh is “lost”. Whatever, that’s a whole different story. After a few phone calls I located a JD dealer who had a few weights in stock. Off we went, an hour drive each way.
Now to the point... with weights in hand, I decided to hang one or two on the hitch (not mounted on tractor) to show my gf how it all worked. We discovered the lower weight brackets (on the tractor side of the hitch) are attached too low to actually hang the weights. Instead, the bottom of the flange (on the weight) that overhangs the bracket is resting on the hitch frame. If those (tractor side) brackets were an inch higher the weights would hang properly.
All photos on heavy hitch website show bottom of the weight flange well off the hitch frame. The profile of the hitch I received is completely different than the example shown in photos on the duel bracket info page. All photos show the tractor side bracket mounted much higher letting the weights hang as designed.
So, Heavy Hitch is closed on weekends and I’ve not had contact with the company about the problem. Feeling very frustrated after shelling out over $300 for the hitch, $69 to ship it and over $500 in suitcase weights. My loader is dead in the water without any ballast!
