    garden tractor attachment compatability?

This forum seems catered towards 1 series and larger tractors so please move this if it'd be more appropriate in the Lawn & Garden Tractor forum.

I am brand new to John Deere and recently bought a used X540 that only came with a mower. I'm interested in buying a snow blower this spring as used prices soften up.

I believe JD's 47" two stage blower is what is currently offered. However, I'm having trouble figuring out what, if any, older or third party models are compatible with my x5 series.

1- I've read about quick hitches.. Do I need one or some other type of hitch to mount the blower?

2- What blowers can I mount to my machine once I have the other hardware?

    Thanks!

You would need a belt driven model.A lot of the ones out there are shaft driven. Here's a video on the install so you can see the blower and attaching parts you need.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atbVBiFx1X4

What I can tell you is the quick hitch is the same for the JD 47" blower and 48" blade. I have the blade. The rod that he attaches to the jack shaft lifts the attachment. You will need to have that jack shaft installed on a stock tractor. Once it's on you can just unhook the rod after winter. The shaft stays on permanently.

I'd love to get my hands on just the blower and shoot controls. Then I could switch from blade to blower as needed. Maybe someday.
