JD 870 Pin On Bucket Conversion to Quick Attach

Decided to convert my 870 tractor with Model 80 pin on bucket to a quick attach. For awhile I was thinking of upgrading to a new series three or four so I could share my quick attach implements. Instead, hayspear.com fabricated a design / build adapter for me. Following are photos of the pin on bucket, the loader plates from Artillian and the adapter installed with the bucket in-tow on its way to the weld shop for conversion.

Nicely done. I want to do the same thing to my 70A loader on my 955. I could really really use a grapple around here with my brush piles.

I planned to do the same to my 870 this year, had priced out parts from JD, but wonder if your way and parts might be a cheaper option!

You won’t be sorry you have converted!

The only thing I think could present a little difficulty is the ‘box’ around the area wherever the lower pin will go in your hay spear.com adapter, having it partially enclosed might make it difficult to quickly and easily set the keeper snap rings in the holes of the pins especially with gloves, etc.

Did Hayspear draw that adapter up from scratch, or did they provide a part number for you?

    Nice job JTNENEID.
Is the FEL arm spacing the same now on the newer tractors as it was back when the 870 was made?

Hayspear already was marketing their basic design for the adapter. Since they had not yet built an adapter for the JD model 80, I supplied basic dimensions for the loader pin side. Then, Kenny, at hayspear made a drawing and sent it back to me for final approval before closing the deal.

I get the impression that the earlier JD loaders were not standard between models. Mine was built in 1988. Off course, new tractors are standard size on the quick attach side for the model class.
