    Can I run a 60 inch rotary cutter on a 2018 2025r?

I’m in the process of buying a 2018 2025r and my dealer recommends only running the 48 inch brush hog. I see the 60 sold all the time with the 3025e. I know it has a little more torque because of different engine but does anyone know of a manufacture that makes a 60inch rotary cutter for a 25 horse tractor. Our dealer uses frontier and I thought maybe a different mower manufacture may have different specs. Or if it’s just best to stick to the 48.

If you were going to mow heavy brushy type of fields then yes I’d stick with the 48”. I also have a 2025R and use a 48” but wish I had a 60” because I only mow pasture grass and fields not worthy of taking hay from. We do have an old Ford 60” that my FIL and I are in the process of cleaning up and doing a little deck repair so hopefully I’ll be using that soon.

That’s probably what most of mine will Be is really overgrown grass we don’t get to cut often enough with the regular mower. Occasionally maybe a little brush along fence lines but after first time it shouldn’t be very heavy.

If it were me then I’d get the 60”, but don’t take my word for gospel. I also remember that when I had my 1023 the dealer told me I wouldn’t be able to use a rotary cutter and that ran my 48” just fine.

Seeing your are in WV the very first thing I think of are hills. I live in an area similar with lots of steep hills.

You have to take that into consideration. I wouldn’t hesitate to use a 60” brush hog behind a small tractor like that on the flat and without a lot of brush. But take that 60” mower up on some hills and it will be trying to slide that tractor back down.

For that reason I use a 48” behind my 2520. I would not want a 60” mower behind me on my hills.

That’s a very good point Stan, my 48” is enough of a handful on the hills in the horse pasture, I would not use that Ford 60” up there even if we get it going.

Hadn’t thought of that. The hills are why I’m thinking going with a 54 instead of a 60 deck. I assume they are both floating decks. I’m headed to the dealer now to have them put it on paper. Is the adjustable arm a must to get the cutter high enough off the ground. Gonna try and finance all I need into the payment at once.

I faced the same dilemma a few weeks ago. Was definitely going to purchase the 2018 2025R and wanted a RC2048 or RC2060 rotary cutter. Dealer said they had sold several with a RC2060 and customers were pleased with them. After much deliberation I went with the RC2060. My area to use it in is mostly grass and weeds at our deer camp with an occasional small amount of brush thrown in. Mowed with it for the first time yesterday at the deer camp. Heavy grass and weeds probably close to 30 inches tall. Area is for the most part fairly flat with a bit of gentle rolling terrain here and there. No problems at all. No bogging down or slowing of the tractor. Was quite pleased with how both tractor and cutter performed. Advise I read on here somewhere was if the stuff being mowed is starting to bog down the tractor and or mower take a smaller cut and or slow down.
