    54” MMM spring busted

Anyone ever have this issue (1 of many) when trying to remove the autoconnect MMM on a 1025r??
First of all i struggle 1 out of 3 times removing and installing this darn thing! So i couldnt get the latch mechanism to unlatch when removing last week. I tapped it lightly with a hammer and then was able to drop the latch and back off the the thing. Then i saw the spring... looks very stretched and busted. My guess is it somehow got caught on the PTO lowering mechanism and got stretched when i backed off. So my guess is the mower deck wont latch properly now when i go and try to reconnect it. I need a new spring.... trying to find a part number and where to buy? Thoughts?

My 54D MMM deck comes off and back on at least once a week. Once in awhile I could not get the lock lever, for the rear carriage arm, to release. This was because there was pressure against it. To avoid this, once I have the deck resting on the ground, with the guide wheels released, I'll give the forward pedal just a touch so the tractor moves forward and with that, the carriage arm away from the lock mechanism.

I'm highly suspicious of what damaged the spring. Driving onto the deck properly, I don't know of anything that could put the spring in jeopardy.

If you're having trouble releasing the rear latch, you probably need to adjust the front draft arms. The cross pin should have about 1/8" gap between the rear of it and the front draft arm brackets. That is the usual cause of the rear latch not releasing or latching.

Do a search on this site and/or see dieselshadow's thread about adjusting the mower deck.

Ya i know the subject of setting up the deck has been discussed like crazy on here. I had an issue when i first got my rig in 2016. The dealership took it back and reset up the deck. It goes on and off about every week and i have issues like every 3rd or 4th week. Mostly releasing that lever and getting the deck to lockin when i drive over it. I find doing it on my asphault driveway works the best. I made the mistake of doing on the lawn and found it never connected well. Il see if i can adjust it some.

On the original topic. I called the dealer about the spring and told a service tech whats happened. Dealer is covering the spring under warranty. Only a $5.60 part.

Spring looks nothing special should be available on line, hardware store, or auto parts store.

Amen jgayman! I've spent a half an hour or more at a hardware store's spring chart and then drawers looking for a spring. I usually leave with at least four different springs that are "close". None of them ever did the job like the OEM spring. I'd gladly pay the 5.60 to avoid the time hunting and the compromise.
