Using My MX6 for a Landplane

Do you think it hurts the MX6 to scalp, allot? I've been clearing some uneven ground, and I've been doing a fair amount of scalping. Some of the areas that I've mowed 2 or 3 times are really starting to look nice. Less scalping every time. I just don't want to hurt the MX6 (or the tractor). If it's just blade wear, that doesn't bother me too much. When the blade hits a mound, it pulls the tractor down to about 1500 rpm for a couple of seconds, and produces a big cloud of dust, then no more mound.

I personally do not like the idea. You run the risk of bent spindles, putting too much pressure on the driveline, premature wear of the implement, etc. Some scalping is to be expected and sometimes unavoidable.

I would worry about hitting more than dirt, a stump, big rock, rusted off fence post, etc. Other than that it's blade wear. I think the MX6 is a little too ligth duty for this. Do you have a slip clutch? If so, is it letting the cutter bog the tractor and not slipping?

It does have a slip clutch, but I better slip it and adjust it. I haven't did that since I bought it a couple of months ago. It will bog down my 4720 without slipping. So it's probably a priority to get that adjusted.
I cleaned up all of the fence post and rocks and stumps already.
I'll try to take it a little easier.

I have hit small ant hills with mine twice and not worried about it. But I would never intentionally drive it into an ant hill or use it to smooth ground. The MX-6 is a beefy unit, but also a fussy one for being in balance. The metal on the bottom can probably take the beating, but how long with the gear box and the shafts hold up?

A land plane is probably cheaper than a new MX-6.

LOL, I thought this could have been wrote by me! I had a couple of acres I cleared with my X495 the same way. After a summer of "mowing" I had a good yard. Be careful and have fun!!!!

I was waiting for someone else to admit it I knew I couldn't be the only one. Now If I could get my wife to stop clearing property with our x748 She thinks it is an MX4
