    mx5 cutter bushing

anyone own a mx5 cutter? if so can you please tell me if that top bushing is oblong shaped? my is almost cone shaped and it is new. i can see now reason for it to be shaped like this. it doesnt seem like it allows it to float like it should. hopefully the photo will show up.

My MX6 is not like that. Also, the bushing that came with it wore through that bolt in about 60 hours. I replaced it with a standard hitch pin. It should wear better than the bolt.

i looked at a parts breakdown. the bushing right below it is the same part. there is no way it could be out of round and fit the slot. i found one online and have ordered it. im kinda wondering if this may go back to some of the problems i was having learning to use the cutter, this unit may not have been floating correctly. i am sure it was like this new. sad that someone would put a part like this one a new unit.

I'm not sure if it would change how it floats. I will say that mine tends to bind up sometimes. It might be a good idea to Lube it up. Maybe some grease or dry graphite or something that won't collect dust.

Remember, when adjusting it to your mowing height, you want all of the weight to be on the lower draft arms of the tractor and on the rear wheel. None should be on the top link. So make sure that the wheel is on the ground. Have the draft arms and wheel adjusted to the cutting height that you want, then extend the top link back a ways to where you can see that it will have play in both directions. This will allow the cutter to follow the terrain. When properly set up, the rear wheel will not lift all that high when you raise the cutter all the way for transport. This is where a hydraulic top link comes in handy.

    Hope that helps.

i ordered a new and it is round like it should be. can't imagine how it ended up with this warped bushing on a new cutter.

I had that bolt break on mx5

I had one of the bolts that goes in that bushing shear off. I ordered a new one but when I went to get it the replacement bolt was a grade 10.9; the one that broke had 8.8 marking. So I asked, how come the new bolt is a higher grade and perhaps this should be a warranty replacement ? (it was still in the 1 year warranty period by 17 days). They said yes but only if they come and install the bolt. They are going to check to see if the bolts should be replaced under some service bulletin. So they now have to send a service technician out to put the new bolt (and bushing) on.

This MX5 is a 2017 (at least that is when i got it 365-17 days ago).
