    1Ř PTO Generator

Here is a little 12Kv PTO generator I fabricated a base for and originally assembled for use with my 650 JD. I got tired of dragging out the gas generator during an outage only to spend an hour getting the darn thing started and the power to come back on 3 hours later.
Although the 650 was only good for producing 5.5 to 6 Kw before starting to loose rpm and frequency, I'm glad I have it now because the 3520 will play with 12Kw! In fact it will probably love to run all day with that load.
It works fine but it could use some improvements .........someday and you know how that goes.Attachment 16547

    PaDave,

Was wondering what the make and model of your generator is? I think that size would work well with my 1026.

Nice base, I gather you have access to a press brake or something similar.
I have more ideas than ambition.

I think you can figure on needing about 2 pto hp per Kw output of the generator as a rough rule of thumb.
540 RPM PTO Generators @ Electric Generators Direct.com - 540 PTO Generators, Slow RPM PTO Generator, 540 RPM PTO Generators, 540 PTO Generator, Slow RPM PTO Generators, 540 RPM PTO Generator, 540 RPM Power Take Off Generator, 540 RPM Power Take Off They have a good selection of PTO generators

And yes I did use a brake to bend the 1/4" plate for the base and a Hossfield bender for the SS pipe. I wish I'd had dies to use 1 1/4" pipe for the frame. After the picture was taken some time later I added gussets across those 90* bends to stiffen it up a little. I don't remember what they wanted for a base but I thought I'd have more fun welding and bending my own regardless of what it looked like in the end.
For me a pto gen made more sense but it may not for others.

Here is a good article on PTO generators and the use of them. I found it off of the link you gave for where you bought your PTO generator. It was a link in one of the review of the generator you purchased. Tractor-Driven Generators: Producing Quality Power

My experience with the tach indication of "rated PTO speed" and frequency were always close enough but I'd usually tweek it up to 61-62 Hz considering the bulk of the load in the house was inductive and it made me feel better while using the 650 for a power source.
