Post Hole Digger on JD 1026R

I have to drill/dig about 40 or more post holes for embankment posts and fence posts over the next year. To ease the pain of manual digging, I bought a CountyLine post hole digger for my JD 1026R. It works pretty good. The biggest problem is that it sticks in the heavy clay soil here. The videos on YouTube show the auger spitting out nice sandy loam. Only in my dreams.

This afternoon, I was drilling post holes when the rain came. Covered the tractor with the tarp and decided it was "beer-thirty".

I have the exact same setup. Whenever I try to dig a hole, the auger screws itself right into the ground. I've tried loading my loader with stone for counterbalance, dropping the auger very slowly and pulling it up to clear away dirt, often. But eventually during the process, it screws right in. I've tried faster speeds and slower speeds, but it still screws in. If I'm lucky enough to catch it before it goes in too far, I can usually rock the tractor back and forth to loosen the auger up. One time I had to use the backhoe to dig it out. A few times I've been able to use a pipe wrench and a long piece of pipe as an extension to unscrew it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, or maybe it's just the nature of the beast given the clay I have to deal with. I might try removing or modifying the auger teeth to make it a less aggressive digger. Any hints?

    Thanks in advance!

I believe 3pt augers are meant to be used at a very low rpm.
I've had the same problem with 1 & 2 man augers.

    County Line Post hole digger

I bought a county line post hole digger from Tractor Supply and it does not seem to fit. The picture looks like the one I bought. I have a 1026R. Am I doing something wrong?

What seems to be the problem? I have one very similar and even though there are challenges because of the 3PH being a limited 3PH and not having enough lift, I was able to set it up okay and works very well. There are ways to compensate for the limited lift on the 3PH.

Seems like the end of the longest bar that attaches to the tractor is too wide to fit.

Sounds like you mean where it attaches to the top link. That's odd. Can you post a pic?
