I picked up the TSC middle buster Saturday.
CountyLine® Middle Buster - Tractor Supply Online Store
I'm making my small irrigation system a little more permanent, and I needed to dig a trench for the water line. Friday I started digging the trench by hand, and decided in about 5 minutes that wasn't going to cut it. I almost felt like maybe I wasted $159 on the middle buster because I only used it for about 15 minutes. Then I got to thinking about the 15 hours it saved me, and I realized it was a good deal. Plus, I do have other uses for it.
My only complaint is that it only digs down maybe 8" at most. There is plenty of clearance with my 3PH raised for a longer shank sticking out the bottom. I know this attachment is only rated for a 35HP tractor maximum, and I'm not looking to make an 18" deep trench in one pass. I would like to get down 12" though. Does anyone else have one of these, and have you attempted any modification to get it to dig a little deeper? I am really thinking about cutting the shank off right below the crossmember and adding 4" to it. I think the frame is strong enough to work, as long as I take two passes to get to the full depth.
I have suitable scrap laying around. Anyone want to convince me not to do this?
