    1958 420W split question

Have it separated about 5" allowing access to the propeller shaft and input shaft. Hesitant to go farther until I figure out how to separate the shafts. Diagram shows a roll pin under a collar with a snap ring , but the collar is partially covering the snap ring. Is removing the snap ring the first step to gaining access to the roll pin?

    Al,
Its been 7 years or so since I split my 420U to replace the clutch. Had the front end supported with an engine crane and a floor jack under the rear. Took the bolts out, separated the throttle shaft and just slid it apart. Don't remember any pins or split rings to remove first. It just slid apart as we rolled the rear tires back with the jack under the tranny.

Which location are you separating your tractor? Between engine & clutch housing or clutch & trans housing? If between engine & clutch housing the 2 parts if level with each other should just come apart unless pilot brg is stuck to trans input shaft.
