    Voltage question

I have a 1958 JD 720 Diesel, pony motor start, original 6 volt generator. Is this tractor a positive ground machine, or standard negative ground system. Thanks for any help.

How about telling him how to find the answer with a voltmeter & enlighten us all?

If there were a battery installed, you could just look at the cables to see if the negative or positive post were connected to ground. If no battery, someone smarter than me will have to help you out. I would guess that it was originally positive ground, but so many of these old tractors have been molested over the years that you can't just guess.

    6V positive ground.
Should not jump start with 12V if original magneto system is on the pony motor. I was told many years ago it did not like the extra voltage. Never tempted fate in the 20 years I had mine.
