    Product review: Twist Lock Hooks

I don't make a habit of writing product reviews however, I was doing some logging yesterday and was appreciating a new to me product and felt compelled to spread the good word.

I've been using chains for pulling, dragging and rescuing things for nearly forty years. I could not begin to estimate how many hundred times the grab hook or slip hook fell off while attempting to tension or retension the chain, always creating frustration and inefficiency. There are lots of slip hooks available with flimsy formed sheet metal latches with inadequate hinges that fail quickly because they are simply designed too weak and are not worthy of purchase.

About six months ago I bought a 3/8" Twist Lock Grab Hook and 3/8" Twist Lock Slip Hook and couldn't be more pleased. I have not experienced a hook fall off during tensioning and do not expect the latches to fail because they are a well thought out and innovative design that will no doubt stand up to the rigors of the task.

With enough experience you can plan for and avoid most situations where the hook will fall off during initial tensioning, the rest of the time you can count on your Twist Lock Hook.

I highly recommend them, I purchased mine from Ken's Bolt On Grab Hooks.

    Thanks Brian

They are truly a great invention to say the least, I'm so glad you took a moment to provide an honest review.

There has been some concern from a few (potential) customers about the springs failing, but this have never been an issue as of this posting. Looking forward though, we are having Stainless Steel springs made now in the event it ever happens, or as any upgrade for those that use these in or near the water.

We have a customer who is sailing around the world, and using one of 3/8" T/L grabs to secure his boat in a "saltwater sailboat anchoring system" and suggested this upgrade.

When I started writing my review last night it was to dark for pictures and after the fact. So, I've attached some freshies. Sorry, I'm not savvy with the site yet to put up the url.

I mounted these hooks on an old 8' x 3/8" chain laying around. Guess I will have to upgrade and mount those nice hooks on some fresh Peerless 3/8" chain sometime soon. In the meantime, when I need a little extra length, I simply latch the grab hook onto another chain and they don't fall apart when untentioned.

I haven't observed any rust on the latch springs, I despise rust and try to put my equipment away clean & dry as well as oiling bare metal. Very difficult to avoid rust here when we have very high dew points. I sure miss the West and the dry climes.

Hope the new springs prove to be corrosion resistant while maintaining the other desired properties and they become standard. Maybe my next order will have them.
