I've been working on remodeling a steep bank garden at the corner of the house off & on this summer. It had a big spreading Cedar when we bought the property 30 years ago. I took the Cedar out a couple years later, straightened up the leaning block retaining wall & added a couple "dead men" to hold it. At the time, I terraced it with landscape timbers. They had since rotted, so I started replacing them with 12" concrete wall blocks.
Put in the bottom row today: I still need to backfill with a wheelbarrow load of dirt. The gray pipe is the overflow for the rainwater tank in the fenced in box at the top, couldn't put it under ground due to big roots & the dwarf Alberta Spruce it goes under. I've got the blocks for the top row, but won't put them in until the plants die down. ~~ Lowell
