    Do It Yourself Mulch Kit?

Anyone just cover the exit on their 60D with a board? I was wondering if the dividers were necessary to get a good mulch. Thanks!

There are some guys on here that made some pretty nice discharge covers. When I tried it, all it really did was create lines of stuff where the discharge hit the cover and fell to the ground. IMO, the 60d does an awesome job of feathering out the discharge by itself

I blocked off the discharge chute on my 48c deck as you can seek the link above for use with mulching leaves. I have not tried it for mulching grass clippings. For leaves it did leave a line on the right hand side of the deck, but after I was finished mulching my leaves I would take off the sheet metal and fan out any remaining leaves.

Fast forword to last fall when others on this forum posted positive results of using Gator blades, so this is what I tried and I am happy to report that they have worked the best of anything else I have tried so far.

I have not used the gator blades for the heavy spring grass yet, but I am looking forward to seeing how the gators will handling mulching up the grass clippings.

My 60D discharges a lot of clippings on top of the lawn even when I cut it when it's short. Then of course next time I cut I'm throwing out the old and new grass and it starts to pile up after awhile. I'm going to try to cover the discharge and see how it goes before deciding on purchasing the mulch kit. Thanks

I tried the board method, I just ducted taped it across the discharge area and it lasted most of the mow. It worked pretty good so I ordered the mulch kit. What a difference, I'm glad I got it! Anyone on the fence about the mulch kit...get it. No more cut grass on top of the lawn .

I use multiple layers of 1/2" galvanized "hardware cloth" appropriately retained with a doubled bungee/tarp strap. Works for 48C and even better on the 54D because the 54D cuts a bit better than the 48C (more blade tip speed?). Gator blades tops off the ensemble. In thick areas where a "line" may be left, I make sure I'm turning that way to redistribute the line into the next cutting row. I can buy a lot of screen and bungees for the price of a single dedicated mulch kit.

I stopped using my 48C w/Powerflow bagger, it was pulling too much soil up with the clippings/leaves in sparser/shade areas and grass growing the following seasons suffered. Leaves and grass stay right where they fall now and just get powdered into fertilizer.

I'll be looking at Gator Blades after awhile, I hope they are harder than the stock blades.
