What kind of weed is this?

Does anyone know what kind of weed this is? It is over 4-feet tall. I have quite a few of them on this hill. I've searched on-line but haven't found anything that was an exact match.

We have the same thing. I put Mrs. C on it - she is looking in her books right now.

Mullein is very common in these parts also! It shoots out that spike in its second year.

Mullein was used in the old days by women to rub on their checks to make them redder.

I'm sure Mrs. Coaltrain isn't that old.

By the way if those pale purple flowers are what I suspect they are a much worse weed. Crown vetch.

Don't worry about the mullein, get after that crown vetch!!!

It grows on our place in Virginia. Wife makes a tea out of it.

Mullein Tea*is an old friend. Then down they go, into a cup of boiling hot water where they'll steep for a while.
