    Diesel fuel or Krosene ?

I vaguely remember putting diesel fuel in a kerosene container some time ago. Is there any way to make sure this is indeed diesel and not kerosene? My kids tell me that this year I get to hide my own Easter eggs.

    Thanks.

Yup. Pour it out and refill with diesel fuel.

Seriously, (most) kerosene has a different smell, but if it's been mixed, you're outa luck. Whatever you do, don't use it in your tractor. Kerosene is very harmful to your fuel pump and injectors.

If it's kerosene for use in vehicles or other road machinery, it should be clear like water. If it is kero sold for off road use, it will have a dye addative to identify it as off road & it usually is a red dye.
If it's diesel it should have a greenish color to it unless it's diesel for off road in which case it will have a dye in it. If you seriously can't tell, do not use it. As stated in the other thread, you will do a lot of damage to your equipemnet. Also, some state's or locations may have different dye colors in use. And if you think it's a mix of both fuels, dump it or recylce it in a safe way.

Use it on a brush pile

I work in a fuels lab and looking at lubricity tests on Kerosene, Jet fuel, diesel all day gets my attention. Straight run Kero will flat chew up injector pumps. You can add lots of additives to improve it's lubricity. I do that with No 1 diesel up here in the winter. The problem is "How much"? For the potential harm it would do your machine. I would suggest taking any cans you had of questionable fuel and using them to get you brush piles started when burning brush this spring (If you burn brush). It's a safer use for that fuel and at least you get some use out of iot.
