    Power steering intermittent when stopped

Iíve noticed this behavior once in a great while but itís happened twice this week while I have a load in the grapple. Iíll be stopped and trying to maneuver and the steering feels Ďjerkyí for lack of a better word. Iím idled up (about 1500 rpm) and not using any other hydraulics. 2wd or 4wd makes no difference and steering is fine when rolling. Apparently a load is making a difference. I havenít noticed the steering cylinder leaking.

    Any ideas?

Are you using rear ballast when this happens? You may be putting a huge strain on the front axle causing the steering to go into relief.

    Just a WAG....

If it is fine when rolling I would guess over loaded front axle or weak power steering pump. My MF135 used to do that when loaded down in the bucket, cold fluid and trying to turn not moving. Much harder to steer front wheels not moving.

I would guess everything all greased up concerning the front end?

Is it jerky over the whole range of turning or just in particular spots?

Just trying to think of possibilities.

The Deere dealer did a full service on it (so he claimed) before I bought, the only routine maintenance I've done was to check fluid levels and I had to replace the battery. I'm going to take it to the dealer for a full 500 hour service soon and I have a torn seal on the front axle (which I don't think has anything to do with the steering issue.)

It's just jerky when stopped and basically the steering is ineffective until I slightly move. Thanks everybody for the comments and suggestions.

Take your 4720 in for the 500hr service on a Fri afternoon and tell a salesperson you want to take a new 4066R/Cab home and try it out. Then 3-4 days later see if theres any difference in steering, never can tell what happens after that move

I looked at the specs between the 4066 and my 4720 and they seem basically the same. Surprised to see the 4066 engine is a Kubota, mine is all Deere.

You sure Kubota, and not Yanmar?

I'm betting your steering is going into relief also.
