    John Deere G110 info?

I came across a G110 for sale locally. It has just over 700 hours, looks clean, they are asking $1,500. My issue is, I don't know much about these tractors. Is it a quality piece? Is that a good deal? I have an old 316 that I love, but it's getting tired. I would still keep that one and just fix it up over time. I mow about 2.5-3 acres and the bigger deck on the G110 would be nice (54 inch). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

The G1xx machines are sort of odd ducks. Originally the G100 was sold as a machine in between the L100-series and the GT200-series machines. They sort of filled that "in between" spot that the S240 fills right now between the D100 machines and the x300 line. The G110 was only made for a couple of years. I'm not sure how many of the G100/G110 machines were ever sold. You never hear much about them.

The G100-machines had the K66 transmission in them though. That's a better trans than the K46 that was/is used in the L100 and D100 machines.

No idea on pricing. I never see them up for sale so it's hard to say.

That was the tractor that I dreamed of buying when I bought my 2005 L108. Like was stated it was the top of the line for the 100 series tractors.
A quick look at Tractor House showed about 7 for sale in the country right now. Prices range from $750 to $2,750. The most expensive one didn't even look that nice. Most averaged around $1,200. The hours were also all over the place.

I'd recommend looking it over good. Things that I would check at are.
Play in the front steering, axle pivot, spindles and wheel hubs. Rock the steering wheel back and forth and watch the front wheels for play or if the tires are pointing in odd directions.

Check the engine oil condition and smell. Do a compression test on it if possible.

Make sure that the transmission pulls good. It should be able to get up a fairly steep hill in either direction. Especially when everything is hot. Drive it at full speed and quickly let off the pedal. The tractor should stop itself and not freewheel.

Look the unit over for rust. Especially under the mower deck.

Make sure the hour meter is working.

    Good luck

Thanks for all the info guys. I appreciate it. Yeah, from what I've found online, it looks like they were only made a few years, frames are supposedly weak, and a few other small issues. Just seems like a good deal. Maybe not. Guess I need to look at it and check it over.

Never heard about the frames being weak. I guess it depends on what you are comparing it to. Like a 500 or 700 series frame.
My old L108 was abused way more then it was ever designed for. Cutting 2' tall grass, plowing snow deeper than the blade many times and towing 300-500# trailer. Never had a problem with the frame. Matter of fact the only real problem was a bad head gasket. Everything else was just ware and tear.

I believe they used the same frame in the G110 and L100 series. The G110 got an extra bolt in brace.
As a matter of fact, when so many
K46 trans were failing in the L100 series, they used the brace out of the G110 when they converted them to the K66 trans.

I'll try to look that one up. Based on the information shared by folks here, I think it's worth the search.

Huh. All of a sudden a G110 popped up on Craigslist somewhat local to me. He wants $1500 for his too and it looks mint. He doesn't list hours but the thing is spotless.

Haven't heard back from CT77 weather he looked at the tractor or not. Hate when peeps have to much of a life too come back and fill us in. lol

This one looks to be in nice shape. Not to bad for it's age. I would have definitely considered buying it when replacing my L108. (If it was semi local) Always worries me when the tractor in the pictures is all wet. Like they just cleaned it up before taking them. It also hides a lot flaws in the finish.
