    455 Electrical Problem

Hello, The mower deck on my 455 will not turn off with the PTO switch. Turns on with no problem but when you push the switch back down it won't go off for some period of time. I have replaced the switch. Any direction would be appreciated.

dl, I won't have access to the 455 manuals until tomorrow. I'm sure there is a serial number break for that model. Could you post your serial? Or send it to me in a PM.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

the sticker is damaged, but it would be in the early range. I purchased used, but I believe it is a 93 model

DL, The part number of the control module is AM136681. It retails for $106.05. Let me know what you come up with.
    Thanks,

Hi Guys, First Time poster here.

    DL,

I don't know about the 455 but on other John Deeres there is a seat switch that will shut down the PTO when it doesn't see contact. The seat switch is activated by the weight of the driver in the seat. When there is weight on the seat the switch closes to complete the PTO circuit and if not working correctly the circuit will stay open and not send power to the PTO switch.

    Just a thought !

Thats actually a pretty complex circuit including a time delay. Seat switch, reverse pedal ( I think that one has RIO), etc.

I would unhook the wire from the PTO and hook it up to a meter or test light. See if it ELECTRICALLY works first.

It could be hanging up from a mechanical standpoint so you need to rule the mechanical part out.

As mentioned the seat switch could be an issue but should kill the motor too. Make sure your reverse switch is not messing you up.
