John Deere 345 hard to keep running on a cold start

I have a 1999 JD 345 with a 20 HP motor. I started it today and it kept dying unless I kept choking it. That lasted for about 10 minutes. It finally smoothed out and I was able to cut the lawn This happened once before about 6 weeks ago. It worked fine after that until today. Has anyone had this problem?

Try removing the gas cap and see if that takes care of it. There is a small vent hole in the cap and they can get plugged placing a vacuum on the tank. The next thing I would check is the fuel filter, when was it replaced last.
