    What to Buy? X750 or X758

    I'm shopping for prices on a replacement for my 425. I am interested in the X758, but I don't need the AWD option too much 'cuz I have a 1026r to do the tough stuff. Therefore, I think the the X750 will do the work and save some $.

    Can't help wonder. Seems like a lot of tractor with already owning a 1026r.

    I'm not sure which tractors your comparing as JD changes the model numbers often.

    I can understand the need for more than one tractor. If I was to buy a X7xx to compliment my 1026, I would get one with 4 wheel steer. 4x4 would be nice, but I could get by with out it.

    Yeah, but it would be great having one of each. I have considered an X7XX to replace my wife's 445 to have in addition to the 2320. We both mow now and save a lot of time cutting grass.

    No AWS. Seems like the opportunity for a lot to go wrong.

    Awd seems nice and nimble but more wear and lube points for maintenance time!

    History has proven otherwise. Thousand of owners of AWS with very very few issues. My old 425 was AWS. 19+ years and never an issue. Still going strong for the new owner too. My new one (X739) is also AWS. Had to have it. Would not do without now. Gave up diesel to get it. If you have open spaces to mow and plow, not needed. But, if you have a lot to mow around, tight corners to work in and plow, AWS is awesome. And completely reliable. It'll mow circles around any other tractor. Plowing too in tight spaces. My big tractor sits all winter because the X739 is just way more efficient in and around cars, driveway, and garage at moving snow. AWS is a big reason why.

    My understanding of JD's AWS is its just a couple linkages. Nothing exotic like cars and trucks have. If I were to get a "mower" and keep my 1026, I'd get a ZTR and an X7xx AWS would be next in line if I wanted a little more flexibility than a ZTR can offer.

    The main thing is to keep the u-joints located inside each rear wheel hub lubricated. The design on the new models seems to be an improvement over what was on the 4x5 models. They have eliminated the center hub that was on the bottom of the rear transaxle, thereby removing another lube point and increaseing ground clearance by a few inches. Pretty substantial improvement with the linkages fed from over the top of the transaxle. It is pretty simple, with just a few simple parts. I wouldn't want to change out those u-joints though. They don't look easy to get at. So, owners keep them lubed.
