    Is a 54 inch deck a 54 inch deck

    Hello,

    I have a 92 445 garden tractor
with its original 54 inch mower deck.

    I have found a 54C mower deck,
will this fit my tractor without any problems
    or modification required?

    Thanks.

Just because it's the same width doesn't mean it would work...doesn't mean it wouldn't either, but you'd have to compare the attachment points, PTO or belt hook-up, etc. before you'd know for sure.

In reality, with enough efffort, you can make just about anything work if you really want to.

What's wrong with your current deck that you don't want to use it? i would think fixing that would be easier than modifying something else.

There are many variations of the 54 deck so its hard to say if it is the same without more information. The basic shell is similar but not exactly the same like sstlaure said. Lots of other 54s used belts to drive them instead of a drive shaft like the 445. Even the later X series style will not bolt right up. Could you make it work? Well with a torch and welder anything is possible I suppose ;) What's wrong with your deck now?

    Alright, thanks.

I see now that there are several versions.
The one for my mower is 9011M.

I just wondered if the attachment point were
    the same.

I've been having trouble with the belt
coming off. I think something is bent.

I don't think so. They changed the back lift mechanisms between those two decks.

Did you pull the deck off the machine yet? I'd suspect something with idler arm/tensioner springs, etc.

It's gotta be a lot easier and cheaper to fix whatever is plaguing your current deck than to get a new one.

An incredible amount of informationo and experience on this board. Maybe someone has a schematic of the deck/belt routing/exploded diagram to assist in diagnosis?

Hey thanks! Answer: I can't tell.

That image is quite pixelated on my machine,
could you provide a link to the original?

Or provide a search path so I can get it.

I can't find the manual, which would have the serial number,
    written on it.

So, I'm not sure what, which, mower deck it is.

The belt cover has been modified to cover the entire top,
but you can see that originally it was two separate pieces.

This looks like it is my mower, but I'm not sure.

I was thinking of replacing the two idler pulleys, and the idler arm,
    and a new belt.

The big spring looks to be in the right spot. Now some part numbers.

    Thanks for the effort.

Yeah, I'm now an expert at taking the deck off, and on. Usually I take it off
blow out the débris, then reinstall, try it, and the belt flies off, then reinstall
again, and it works 'fine'. Until the next time I mow.

Try this link - it's an online pictoral catalog. Just put in 445 for the model and you should be able to drill down into the implements section then to 54" deck. Full blow-up diagrams and everything.

Found that other pic via yahoo search but it was a crap image. This should be a great reference for you to use (will give you all the part numbers you should need if you have the original deck.)

    Okay, thanks again.

    I know about JD_Parts,(of course)
but I couldn't find the mowers.

    Implements, OK.

Why would the mower deck not be part of the garden tractor?

I love capitalism, but I think I hate corporations.

End of thread, that's all, good night, thanks!
