    X500 deck lubrication confusion

The manual for the X500 is a bit confusing in the area of deck lubrication. They show the following information (54-inch shown but 48-inch info is the same)

The second bullet, I cannot locate any such cap on my deck idler pivot.

So I checked the parts listing. They show two deck assemblies, one -030000 and one 030001-. If I am interpreting the parts list correctly, the older deck has the idler pivot that needs lubricating whereas the newer deck does not.

    0300001- Deck

Is there somewhere on the deck where the serial number is listed? Why would JD continue to list ONLY the lubrication instructions for the old deck in the 2014 manual and no mention of the newer deck?

There is a tag with country of origin and serial number on the deck.

The manual was printed before the second series of deck was made. My GUESS is there is a addendum to the manual that you did not get.

I could see where my printed manual would be out of date but the 2014 electronic version on the JD website shows the same info.

Because, like the lack of information on "how much" lubricant to use in spindles, they don't want you worrying about some ol' pivot either. Let's face it, JD is noted for their omission of pertinent information in many model manuals. (Like that number of hours thing for a 1025 first oil change...)
