    345 Leaking Fuel

    My 2000 345 is now leaking fuel out of the carb vent hose. It's never done this before. I have the new style Kawasaki fuel pump (installed last November) with the drain hose that is tie wrapped to the carb vent hose. It's the gray vertical hose in the middle on the left tie-wrapped to the light gray fuel pump drain hose on the right.

    The tractor would not idle, I had to rev it WOT to keep it running. Thinking I may have a stuck float. Any idea's?

    That hose is a safety hose to divert fuel away from hot engine parts in your exact circumstance. Your float could be sticking but I'd be willing to bet your needle valve is stuck open either due to deterioration or debris from your fuel. You are going to have to pull the carb and open it to look at everything. Might be a good time for a deep clean and a kit.

    Can I just pull the fuel shutoff solenoid and spray carb cleaner in there to try and clean it out? It's just a washer and not an O-ring.

    You can try that but I'm going to guess no. If that's the direction you wish to pursue, you might try pulling the fuel intake line and spray carb cleaner through that with a needle. Again, I'm going to guess you will end up disassembling the carb. Even if its something blocking the needle, you want it out of there. Something else to consider after you get this going is the condition of your fuel lines. There's a better than 50/50 chance that whatever is in your needle (if that's what's going on) came from the inside of your fuel line.

    I replace the fuel filter every fall after cutting/leaf season is over. I'm guessing, to just get up and running again without tying up the tractor in the shop for two weeks, would be to just buy a new carb and swap it out.

    If your fuel line is shedding, you will be buying a 2 plus hundred dollar bandaid and while it might solve your short term issue, your problem will return. The only question is when. I wouldn't put a brand new carb on there without knowing (or at least attempting to) why it happened to begin with.

    Tore apart and cleaned the original carb and it still leaked. So I installed a new Kawasaki Carb and removed all the fuel lines and replaced with new rubber. Runs like a new tractor again.

    I have had same thing happen to me. I finally figured it out, on the needle valve that fills the carb bowl, there is a spring loaded plunger, that was stuck in.
