    GT242 replacement engine

Good morning, I'm new to this forum, and have a question regarding a replacement engine for my 1994,GT242. The lower back part of the block, blew out, not sure how or why. I want to replace the engine but wasn't sure if there was an aftermarket engine available.

    Thanks.

AT a quick glance this is what I found.

    John Deere GT242 Repower
    Trav1s on WFM
    '67 110, '68 side tag 110, '71 120/41 deck "worker," '77 312, '88 318/38 deck/49 blower, 7 & 10 carts, 51SV Chain saw, and a couple of old JD push mowers and a 318 needing a new heart.

Vertical shaft is usually fairly easy to repower. The crank dimensions are the most vital, followed by exhaust routing.

The bottom of the base blew out because it broke the rod, and the part left on the crank needed someplace to go. It’s not repairable for the most part, so what caused it in the first place doesn’t really matter at this point.
