OEM PTO Clutch VS Afermarket PTO Clutch

I had to replace the pto clutch on my John Deere L120 .
The OEM replacement was something like $350 and the non OEM from Hexautoparts was more than $100.
    https://www.hexautoparts.com/electri...g-upgrade.html
I bought the non OEM part. It was identical, and I mean in every detail, except for the JD logo embossed on the back. Even the part number stamped on the back was identical except that the part number from the old one ended in a JD.It was made in China and easy to install. My John Deere is nice and quite again!!
All in all, saved me a couple hundred dollars and my lawer mower is cutting grass again.
Then I recommend to my neighbor. He also bought a pto clutch online but from Ebay, more cheaper.
But him told me the electronic ignition of new aftermarket pto clutch died so he bought the OEM replacement. That thing didnt fit at all. All the terminals on it were in different places and none of the wires reached to their terminations. He ended up just letting it dangle in the air suspended by the wires because that's the only way it could be installed.
John Deere may have a reputation for quality but sometimes it isnt warranted, right ?

I was told several years ago that John Deere PTO's where made in Japan. I would count that as an after-market item.
The good thing about the PTO you bought for $100.00 , is that you may get three years out of it, and you buy another and get three years, and another and get three years totaling 12 years for $300.00. Still saving $50.00 in those 12 years.... I would consider that a great deal anywhere. Of course, considering that John Deere probably makes somewhere around 300% profit on the OEM item.

My neighbor has a $99 one on order from Cramazon. When he told me Deere wanted close to $300; I about crapped my pants though I wasn't surprised. I paid $155 for a Deere PTO clutch in 2009.

It seems all PTO Clutch for lawn mowers have substantially increase in price in the last 5-6 years. A John Deere PTO Clutch in 2009 used to be about $100 anywhere you looked. Now they can run $300 or more for the same pto clutch.

This is the one I got https://www.amazon.com/John-Deere-Or.../dp/B008MA46PA free shipping helped in the cost.

The price had gone up in 2 1/2 years. It's OEM (original equipment manufacture for those who don't know) it is working very well as my 345 is used for mowing, tilling, and snow blowing.

Being John Deere does not build their own clutches(they buy them from a outside suppler), they're only OEM because it comes with a new mower.

    So..........

So..... If my first one that came on the tractor lasted me about 17 years why go to a different one.Of course Deere doesn't make the clutch as is other parts (example Kawasaki engine,Yanmar engine) why not get replacement that you know works rather than something you don't.As much of a pita it is to remove I sure don't want to do it again in 5 years because of a cheap part that didn't hold up.
