There was a company in Colorado that made better seats but they are now closed. The comment I saw regarding the OEM seats was that they used thinner vinyl and the way it was attached to the foam didnt allow it to move and it cracked. I have been looking for a set of seats for my gator and have held off until I can find something better. It seems like there would be a market for a quality seat. None of the replacement seats are cheap and and I think most people would pay more for a seat that would last.

112 - Sold in July 2017 but took me until November to admit I just cast it out into this cruel world.

Warranty. I suspect we will see yet another "seat memo" from Mother Deere. I have been sending in reports with pics on every cracked seat I see. No rejected warranty claims yet.

Well... this thread sure sparked an unexpected outcome on my part. If you recall, I had the seat split on my X500 at around 100 hrs and it was replaced under warranty. In an attempt to extend the life of the replacement seat I installed a JD seat cover as soon as the replacement seat was installed.

That was 2-years and 100 hrs ago. I'm now at 210 hrs. I've commented on how poorly the JD seat covers fit and how they are always sliding around. Unlike the SCUT/CUT covers there really isn't any place on the L&G covers to attach additional bungies or anything.

So last night after I finished mowing I flipped up my seat cover to see how the new seat was holding up. Imagine my shock when THIS is what I found. Keep in mind this tractor is stored in a garage at all times. I have to ask myself why did I even bother with a seat cover. My old 175 Hydro seat lasted over 17 years before it developed the first crack.

Needless to say I will not be replacing it with a JD OEM seat. I think I'm going to give one of those Ebay seats a try. I installed one of those on the old 175 and I was very impressed with the construction.

A&I makes a decent seat and should be available thru you Deere dealer as an aftermarket seat.
Sometimes we get new machines out of the crate with jacked up seats or black mold that is impossible to scrub off. My Scotts made in 2000 is just starting to crack. I dont understand the quality of seats Deere is using. I just keep making reports, taking pics. All on my dime of course. No feed back yet.

Nice pics.. And this exact place is where I see every seat fail. Same as we have seen for years. It wasn't 5 or 6 yrs ago that Deere realized they had an issue. The cause was the seat cover was thinner on the lower part of the seat on the outside radius. Yup.. Well we still have the problem. I really like the A&I seats. They seem more robust and they cost less than an OEM seat.

The funny thing is I had the original seat replaced because it had a little 1.5" tear. This seat looks like it exploded. I have it taped up now with some yellow Gorilla tape and the vinyl must shrink because I couldn't even get the edges of the vinyl to go back together.
