    455 mower deck replacement

My 455 deck is badly rusted and really needs replacement. It`s a 60" I was thinking another JD 60 might fit but I have one here off an x495 and the mounting distance from the front to the back is about 4" difference. My dealer say NLA. Price was $4700. No way I would spend that. Any info out there on decks far as measurements?

    Welcome!

I noticed you have no information on your location?

Many members that may be able to help have no idea where you are located.

I tried to swap the decks as you are suggesting and found it not worth the effort. It's not impossible, just how practical is it? 4" wheelbase difference in the 2.

Is the X495 deck you have actually a 60" or is it a 62C deck? If it's a 60" I would have some interest in it for my X595. That would offset the cost of this.

This is the correct late model deck for your tractor.

    JOHN DEERE 60ā€¯ MOWER DECK 425 445 455 | eBay

This one is in PA and is much more affordable than anything the dealer will offer. Your best bet is CL, Ebay or possibly this place:

TractorSalesAndParts.com - Hundreds of Used Tractors Parts!

I am not sure where you are located, if you are close to these places no big deal, otherwise you will have to factor in shipping into your cost.

These decks are for sale used all the time in my area. In fact, I have the 60" on my 455 and I am thinking about selling the tractor as I really could use a gator instead and I don't have enough room for everything.

As others have said, post your location and we can help you find a deck.

Also, I have seen brand new 60" decks for the 455 for about $2,900 in the crate still. They are out there. That deck is so darn tough that if it isn't rusty, it can be easily repaired with some new spindle bearings and a new coat of paint and away you go.

Let us know where you are and what you want to spend and I bet we can find you a either new deck or very good used deck.

Would you like the 60" deck with the MC519 collection cart and the deck mounted belt driven blower and tube to go with it? I might be willing to sell those if I can sell the entire set up as one unit. I also have the front angle hitch, front drive unit, brand new 54" front plow used once and also the 47" snow blower and rear weight bracket and all sorts of goodies for the 455. I am in Michigan, but people ship stuff via different methods all the time.

I knew I forgot something. I am in south Texas close to Houston. I have not removed the deck to look under it but I can see some holes in the top when I remove the plastic. I will need to sandblast it to see what it really looks like. I did this about 8-10 years ago and epoxy painted it. My lack of washing it every time was a big factor to the rust out.

    That's not good......

Try searching the Craigslists in Western Illinois and Eastern Iowa, that region as there are a lot of the machines on the area which are owned by Deere employees and I have found more NOS (New Old Stock) parts in that region for some reason.

Make sure to watch the serial numbers on the decks when you are seeking the decks, as the earlier decks had steel safety guards the the later decks had the plastic guards. I think it was just the first 2 years the deck had the steel guards, but I am not 100% certain on that issue.

If you can see holes from the top side, you are likely to find swiss cheese left when you media blast the deck.

If you search on Craigslist, etc. there are used decks out there. Also, there are numerous outfits which buy these machines and part them out so when you see various used John Deere parts for sale, watch for trends which indicate its a business parting out these older Deeres. These decks are the same for the 425, 445 and 455 so make sure to include the others in your search..............

The deck is about 400 pounds, but it can be strapped to a pallet or even stood upright and shipped on a vertical rack. Truck freight, the UShip yahoo's and also Fastenal has a shipping service which isn't outrageous, so don't limit your search to just local decks.................

    Good luck.

A 455 deck has been advertised on Craig's list in my area (Ocala FL) for some time.. Maybe worth contacting to see if he will ship if it's in good condition and a good price..

When I had my 455s, they had the 60" deck. I was always frustrated with the 60" deck. Both of my 455s were all AWS. So you would think that I could edge around things snugly. That was not the case. The issue was the rear guide wheels on the 60" deck. They are tall, narrow, and no radius on the edge. When you would try to edge around a tree, for example, the rear guide wheel would dig in and rip up the sod. This was because, by nature, the earth/sod around the tree base is raised up. Even most of the man made structures I would try to edge around also have the earth around them raised fro drainage issues. So this pretty much negated the benefits of AWS.

Before I decided to move to the 1025Rs, I was on the hunt for 54" decks for the 455. The guide wheels on those are much shorter and have a a very long radius on the edges. Most of the current production decks utilize this same guide wheel design.

So while you'd be giving up 6" of mowing width, which was a non-issue for me, you may want to seek out a 54" deck. Especially if your tractor is AWS.
