    1988 JD 240 rear drum

Just wondering if anyone had experience adjusting the rear brake on this model. I took the right wheel off and then the drum. Brake pads are very thick doesn't even look to worn, but there is no brakes at all when you hit the pedal. There doesn't seem to be any adjustment that I can see either ...both rods aren't threaded. This tractor has been in my family since new and we've been mowing without brakes for about 20 years.

Im not familiar with your tractor but if you shared a couple pix, I might be able to figure out what type of system you have.

Here's what the Service manual says about those brakes. I broke the page in the center so it could be read better.
