D140 engine starts but transmission ...

D140 engine starts but transmission won’t engage.
    - I drove the tractor to level ground last week. I needed to remove a rear tire which had a puncture. I used a car jack to elevate the rear end, removed old tire, put on new one 2 hours later. At that point, started up engine but couldn’t go forward or backward. Is there some belt or switch I might have dislodged? I have slight engine knowledge but almost no transmission experience. Any help much appreciated

When you removed the tire did you misplace the key? There is a square key on the axle that engages the wheel. Without it the tractor won't move.

Yup. The keyway is exactly where logic leads.

3rd vote for the key. Those keys are pretty easy to push out the backside if you put the key in place and then try to slide the wheel on.

Jgayman: tell me where to send the case of beer, because that was exactly the problem. And a small miracle — I found the key on my garage floor!

That is the bonus when you don’t go anywhere.

Have one for me. I’m glad that’s all it was. Believe me, it happens more often than you might think.
