    LA105 running rough

Hello, I'm new here. I have a 3 year old LA105. BS 19.5 single motor. She runs rough and won't deliver full rpms. Fuel and air cleaner clean, fresh fuel and new plug. Not sure where to look next. Thanks !

I don't know your motor or machine but I would check the fuel filter, check for a pinched fuel line, make sure the gas cap vent is open and the choke is working properly, (don't screw the air filter's wing nut down to tight), make sure the battery is good, ground and positive wires are tight and clean at the battery and the frame.

Thanks for the reply. The engine is a Briggs & Str. 19.5 hp single cylinder. Fuel filter is new, battery is new and no kinks in the fuel line. Could it be the fuel shut-off solenoid, located on the bowl of the carb?

I don't have an answer for that JM. I'm not familiar with the engine. I just threw out some common problems to check for until the real trouble shooters on the website come by, keep checking back....

Well it's not the shut-off solenoid. Seems to be working, key off plunger extends, key on plunger retracts. Still stumped !

    JMSFISH,

I would try running some Sea Foam additive with the gas. If that does not work, I would clean the carburetor.

Try first checking your cables leading from the choke and the throttle to the carburator. Rough running and loss of power could be a cable retainer that has worked itself lose and is holding the choke butterfly partially shut, which could cause the engine to run rough. Also check the throttle cable for proper adjustment.

The next step if that does not solve the problem is to have the valves checked for adjustment, if they are out of adjustment the engine will also run rough and not give you the power you need.

As was mentioned in a previous post if you have not changed the fuel filter do so. If you do change the filter, drain the fuel tank completely and rinse it with fresh gas. Fill the tank with fresh fuel along with some Seafoam and use a stabilizer / ethanol treatment such as Startron or marine grade Stabil in the fuel. The smaller engines and ethanol are not getting along too well.
