When you turn the key on, the fuel gage goes negative/down rather than up to the correct fuel height. I'm not sure how to test the instrument cluster to see if that is the problem. I did pull it out and cleaned all plugin connections and even pulled the panel apart and cleaned the circuit board. Still the same.
Put back together and then pulled the fuel sending assembly out. Not quite sure how to test or what the ohms should be. I cleaned the float contacts and the circuit board that the contacts float across. Not a lot of resistance change when I slide the float up and down. Plugged harness back in and tested, gage still does the same. Help please, ideas... Stevo

"The fuel level in the fuel tank is measured by the B2 fuel
gauge sensor. The sensor is a variable resistor. The
resistance is set by movement of a mechanical linkage
connected to a float in the fuel tank. The 5 to 95 ohm
variable resistance creates a variable voltage difference
across the fuel gauge. The voltage difference ranges from
approximately 5.72 VDC (fuel tank full) to approximately
0.87 VDC (fuel tank empty). The fuel gauge is part of the
My X495 with 4300 plus hrs. fuel gauge stop working, took seat and fender off. Check the gauge direct to sender and the gauge worked it turn out the wire from the sender to gauge cluster was broken run a new wire and still work. Check the wire from the sender to the cluster. Hope this help.
