Problems starting my JD LT155. please help!

    Hello from Sweden!

Im new to this forum so HI everyone!
Im from Sweden you know the country far east with IKEA, nice blond girls and ABBA
Because english is not my native language I appologize if there are any miss spellings.

Now to the problem that i hope you guys could help me with.

    I got a John Deere LT155

I got problems starting it. Ive replaced the battery to a new one.
Checked all the cables. Remade the groundwire.

It wont start by itself but i can powerjump it with wires from my car.
Then it runs how it is supposed to run. I got around 14volts on the battery when running. So it seems like its charging?

But when i stop and try to start again it only "clicks"

Could the start solenoid give me this kind of problems?
That it wont release any power to the startengine on the regular battery but when i powerjump it it receives so much power that it opens?

    Any other ideas?

Im thankful for all tips and tricks.

John Deere mowers arent that common here in sweden so the help online here are minimal..

    thanks in advance.

    Patrik from Sweden

Based on your description it sounds like a bad battery. I would also check to make sure the terminal connections are clean.

    Thanks for your tips.
But i had this problem first and thought like you and went and bought a new battery.
After i changed the battery this saturday i could start the tractor directly i then drove it to the garage and went out yesterday (sunday) started it up without any problems. Mowed the grass for like 2 hours. Stopped it because i had to move some garbage and then when I tried to start it again it just clicked. Had to jumpstart it again and drove back home and stopped it there and now it just clicks.. :/

extremely annoying to have to jumpstart it and plan the mowing so i never have to turn it off

    Thumbs up Welcome to GTT!

Are you jump starting straight to the battery or to the starter?

    To the battery.

I also tried jumping the starter directly with the old battery just to make sure it worked.

If you're jumping to the battery terminals and not bypassing the electrical system, I would agree with dschuffert. Remove and clean your battery terminal connections. If your battery is good, you should be all set.

yes, im just jumping directly to the plus and minus on the battery. So not bypassing anything electric (solenoids etc).

Ill try tonight after work to check the connections on the cables to the battery.
The connection on the battery should be ok since its brand new..

thanks for all your help and time so far!!

The LT155 had two different electrical systems, a 3 amp and a 15 amp. If you can determine which one you have (usually the 3 amp had a 3 position ignition switch, while the 15 amp had a 4 position), I can send you the electrical schematic. From what I can read into this, you may have a bad connection at one of the battery terminals if the battery is indeed good.

Im almost certain that i got 4 positions including the off position? but ill have to doublecheck when i come home.
Im sure as hell gonna get ww3 on those battery cables when i come home.

I got this tractor from my father since he changed up to a new one last year. Somehow he has forgotten where he put the original manual and ive been searching forever both in his garage for the real one and online after a pdf.
    Anyone got some tips?

    and the saga continues.

came home from work and went to the garage.
    battery showed 12.84volts.
Tried to start it and it started directly without any problems.

Drove it for an 45minutes and the battery is charging etc 13.9* volts.

stopped it and tried to start again... NOT STARTING just clicking.
    Battery shows 12.9* volts
Felt with my hand on the start solenoid and its it that are clicking.

When i try to start i have NO power from the solenoid to the starter.
I measured with my multimeter and it seems like it clicks but doesnt release any power.

But the strange thing is that it worked first try both yesterday and today and then after being stopped refusing to start.
Could the start solenoid stop working when getting hot or is there anything else that prevents the solenoid from releasing power to the starter?

    regards,
    Patrik
